Brief overview ...

On behalf of the Afghanistan Air Traffic Control Modernization Program, Logenix was tasked to plan and implement the shipment of a specially built mobile air traffic control tower from Kansas City to Kandahar Afghanistan. The planning included provisions for specialized work prior to lift off, and immediately upon landing, on the pressurization sensitive glass comprising much of the tower. Glass windows were perforated to allow for pressure changes in take off and landing. Logenix had personnel on the ground in Kansas City to monitor the loading and glass perforation and also in Kabul to oversee the resealing of the glass immediately within one hour of landing at the Kabul Afghanistan airport.

Due to the outsized nature of the tower an Antonov 124 was required for the transport. While the tower and ancillary equipment comprised only a small portion of the 124 capacity, Logenix provided a cost savings plan to divert all other US and Canada originating equipment for this project and others. In order to achieve significant cost savings, two trucks were arranged to bring 68 separate pieces of office furniture for Bagram AB and one smaller van was arranged with 39 crates of expensive communication equipment for Salerno AB to meet the aircraft in Kansas City. Approximately $75,000 was saved by these actions.

In Afghanistan, Logenix personnel provided critical management of the difficult trucking task of the air control tower from Kabul to Kandahar and assistance with the unloading and separation of equipment for two other destinations within Afghanistan.
