Brief overview (TACOM)... On behalf of contractors for the U.S. Army's Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Logenix was contracted to ship 86 out of gauge and oversized vehicles comprised of specialized trucks, mobile cranes, blood bank vehicles, blood collection vehicles, and x-ray machine based vehicles from various vendors throughout out the United States to locations in southern Iraq. In the US, Logenix managed and arranged for each oversized vehicle to be loaded/secured onto special equipment for inland transport and ocean freight. Due to severe restrictions gaining US Flag carriage at that time, the shipping process had to be carefully arranged and coordinated. At destination, Logenix obtained duty free clearance and arranged armed guard escort of the vehicles from the Port of Kuwait to locations in Umm Qasr and Basra. Expert and experienced communications by Logenix personnel in Kuwait were necessary to coordinate the armed security as the Iraqi border was crossed. No vehicles were lost or damaged due to conflict. Throughout this whole process, Logenix employed cost savings measures such as switching shipping strategies (Ro/Ro to flat rack service), in order to combat increasing shipping prices to the region. Additionally, Logenix, one of the very few companies in the world able to obtain war risk underwriting from the most well known global underwriters, was able to negotiate much reduced war risk premiums for the southern deliveries. Logenix, via expert planning, negotiation and watchful problem solving was able to save its clients over two hundred thousand dollars on these programs.
Brief overview (Humvee Project)... On behalf of the 350th Civil Affairs Command Logenix was contracted to assist in the re-armoring of 120 Humvees. Logenix was contracted to transit the Hummers from the International Zone (IZ) in Baghdad to Camp Doha Kuwait. Due to the extreme threat conditions and the high profile target presented by the nature of the cargo, special security and precautionary planning was required. Three convoys of twenty trucks were implemented over a ten day period. As an indication of the dangerous conditions, during the loading of the first convoy a Chinese 107 MM rocket was launched into the IZ and exploded in the convoy loading area. Three convoy trucks were badly damaged and Logenix personnel immediately arranged for replacements so only one day was lost due to the attack. Each convoy, closely coordinated with the 350th Command, was loaded and dispatched during daylight hours to arrive at the safe transit area of Navstar before nightfall. The following morning the convoys departed for Camp Doha. Private security was arranged by Logenix, based upon our extensive experience in Iraq, to present both a significant deterrent and sizeable counterforce. All three convoys transited incident free and all Humvees arrived undamaged in Kuwait. |
